Abstract

The advancement of technology and automation has brought about a significant wave of change in Indonesia's employment landscape. This progress offers numerous benefits, such as improved operational efficiency and the emergence of new, more modern, and technology-based types of jobs. However, it also poses major challenges, particularly regarding the sustainability of jobs that still rely on manual skills, especially in traditional sectors that have not yet fully embraced digitalization. This study highlights how technology and automation have reshaped the demand for workforce skills and widened the digital divide between urban areas, which are generally more prepared, and rural areas that continue to lag behind in infrastructure and access to information. Enhancing digital literacy and skills is therefore crucial to ensure that the local workforce can adapt and remain competitive in the digital era. Government programs such as Kartu Prakerja have emerged as strategic solutions, providing broader society with access to training and skill enhancement. Nevertheless, the digital transformation will not reach its full potential without inclusive policies that ensure every individual regardless of geographic or social background has equal opportunities to grow and contribute to the digital economy.
