Abstract

In Indonesia, diabetes mellitus ranks sixth in terms of the number of deaths from chronic diseases. In order to manage blood sugar levels, people with diabetes are expected to have knowledge regarding the factors that can make blood sugar levels rise. With the knowledge, they can adopt a healthy lifestyle and steer clear of triggers. Diabetes foot exercises are one type of physical activity that can be practiced as a preventive measure. In this case study, it aimed to describe nursing care for elderly patients undergoing foot exercise therapy for diabetes mellitus. Based on the findings of the conducted research, it was determined that nursing concerns caused tingling in the feet, and that health management was inadequate. Diabetes mellitus education, self-monitoring blood sugar education, and physical activity training for diabetic foot exercises to reduce blood sugar levels were the implementations offered. Based on the results of the evaluation of the education and implementation that had been carried out, there was a decrease in blood sugar levels, before being given education and implementation of diabetic foot exercises 402 mg / dL and after being given education and implementation of diabetic foot exercises to 218 mg / dL. It is also recommended that diabetes mellitus sufferers continue to self-monitor their blood sugar levels and adhere to dietary guidelines that limit their intake of sweet foods that raise blood sugar levels.
