Abstract

This study aims to review recent developments in HIV drug development through a literature analysis of scientific journals published over the past 10 years. The review findings indicate several innovative approaches that show significant potential in HIV therapy. Flavonoid compounds, such as myricetin and kuwanon-H, exhibit strong antiviral activity against HIV and can be used as natural drug candidates. The use of nanotechnology and carbon nanotube-based delivery systems can enhance drug bioavailability and reduce toxicity. In silico studies have also identified proanthocyanidins as more effective inhibitors of HIV-1 integrase compared to raltegravir, a currently available integrase inhibitor. Furthermore, the development of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems could enable more targeted drug administration, improving efficiency and reducing side effects. These various innovations have the potential to enhance the effectiveness of HIV therapy in the future, improve the quality of life for patients, and reduce the global burden related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
